NCS/WFHA Indoor League Opens
With weather more appropriate for playing outdoors, the
opening day of the 2007 NCS/WFHA Indoor Field Hockey League opened on Saturday
January 6th. The league
consists of eight teams with all roster spots filled. Six players that filed applications to play
needed to be turned away as well as about the same number of players emailing
about the league.
Bill Levey and Jane Degrenier held a short orientation about
the facility and indoor field hockey rules.
There were a few minutes for teams to get together and get organized
before the games started. This week
games were limited to 20 minutes due to the orientation. Games for the remaining weeks are scheduled
for 25 minutes. Each team plays three
games and officiates one game.
Team 6 ended week 1 with a 3-0-0 record. Team1, Team 4, and Team 3 all finished with
2-1-0 records. Team 8 was 1-1-1, Team 7
was 1-2-0, Team 5 was 0-2-1, and Team 2 was 0-3-0.
Players adjusted well to the indoor field hockey rules with
the lifts to a minimum and few if any illegal shots. Play should only get better as the season
goes on.
Next league games are Saturday January 13th at
10:00 AM.
